Baby Bird Wine

Wine can be simple or complex, it's all how you look at it. Or rather, how you drink it!. Whether you want to learn more about the tasting process or want to learn more about a specific wine or region, I'm here to help! 

I didn't really start drinking wine until my late twenties and just a few years later I found myself living in wine country. I was surrounded by several of the most incredible wine regions in the US, if not the world. The strangest part of this story is that I spent ten years purposefully ignoring it. I didn't visit one winery or tasting room for two reasons. One, there was a corner store within walking distance that gave me access to some of the regions most amazing wines and two, I thought the whole process of sniffing, swirling, and tasting seemed ridiculous. I mean, why? Why would anyone really need to do anything other than drink it? Oh how wrong I was!

Fast-forward almost fifteen years to a time when I was at a crossroads of what to do with my life. While searching through job listings I noticed a local tasting room that was looking for a hostess. I had heard of this particular tasting room from a friend of mine who worked there and when I asked her what she thought she said, "why not? You like wine, just apply." I was immediately hired as a hostess and jumped right in. I could hear what was going on in the tasting room and I purchased a few beginner tasting books to keep me busy between seatings. Within two weeks I was hooked! I moved into the tasting room and within two months I was lead in sales. It all just clicked. I had always had a crazy intense sense of smell and this was the perfect fit.

Since then I have been lucky enough to work in all three states along the pacific in several incredible wine regions. Paso Robles, CA, Woodinville, WA, Southern Washington, and the Willamette Valley, north and south. I've worked for mom and pop wineries and I've worked for wineries overlooking massive valleys. Through all of it the best moments were spent interacting with people and helping many to get over their fear or discomfort of the art of tasting wine.  Can you just drink wine? Sure! But you can also go through all the motions of swirling, smelling, tasting, and taking in everything about a region from vine to bottle and understand how incredible this juice is.
