Wine can be simple or complex, it's all how you look at it.

Or rather, how you look, swirl, smell, and then drink it!

I didn't really start drinking wine until my late twenties and just a few years later I found myself living in wine country. I was surrounded by several of the most incredible wine regions in the US, if not the world. The strangest part of this story is that I spent ten years purposefully ignoring it. I didn't visit one winery or tasting room for two reasons.

One, there was a corner store within walking distance that gave me access

to some of the regions most amazing wines.

Two, I thought the whole process of sniffing, swirling, and tasting seemed ridiculous.

I mean, why? Why would anyone really need to do anything other than drink it?

Oh how wrong I was!

Fast-forward almost fifteen years to a time when I was at a crossroads of what to do with my life. While searching through job listings I noticed a local tasting room that was looking for a hostess. A friend of mine worked there and when I asked her what she thought she said, "why not? You like wine, just apply." I was hired as a hostess due to my lack of wine knowledge. However, I could hear what was going on in the tasting room and became so curious to learn more about what they were talking about. I purchased a few beginner tasting books to keep with me at the hostess stand and that kept me busy between seatings. Talk about the best kind of shock, the world of wine was amazing! Within two weeks I had learned enough from the books and what I was hearing inside the tasting room and on a slow day the manager gave me a crack at pouring. Needless to say I was hooked! 

I moved from the hostess stand into the tasting room and within two months I was lead in sales. It all just clicked.

I had always had a crazy, intense sense of smell and this was the perfect fit.

Since then I have been lucky enough to work in all three states along the pacific in several incredible wine regions. Paso Robles, CA, Woodinville, WA, Southern Washington, and the Willamette Valley, north and south. From single room mom and pop wineries to the most posh wineries overlooking massive valleys filled with vines, I've had experiences of those and everything in between. Through all of it some of the best moments were spent helping people who had never been wine tasting. I understood so well their fear and discomfort around the art of tasting wine. 

Can you just drink wine? Sure! No arguments from me.

But if you decide to go through all the motions of swirling, smelling, tasting, and taking in everything about a region from vine to bottle, I promise you zero disappointment. I also promise you a ton of laughter and enjoyment through the whole process. Rare are the folks who have walked away from my tables not saying they've just had an incredible experience, learned so much, and loved every moment of it.
